Hansa Buddhism Tour
Duration : 15 Days / 14 Nights
Destinations : Delhi – Lucknow – Sravasti – Lumbini – Kapilavastu – Kushinagar – Varanasi – Bodh Gaya – Rajgir –Ratnagiri Caves – Bhubaneshwar – Delhi

Day 01: Arrive Delhi
Upon arrival in Delhi you will be met and assisted by our Hansa Vacations representative and transferred to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 02: Delhi
After breakfast you will proceed for a full day city tour of Old & New Delhi. The guided tour takes you to the monuments that depict the different eras of Delhi’s history. Start your tour with Old Delhi driving past the magnificent Red Fort followed by a visit to the Jama Masjid, Asia's largest mosque, Rajghat - the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Afternoon visit New Delhi of New Delhi to include Humanyun Tomb, Birla Mandir, Qutab Minar, India Gate, President'' House and drive through Connaught Place. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 03: Delhi - Lucknow (by air)
Lucknow – Sravasti (by road – 174 kms)
Morning a Hansa Vacations representative will transfer you to the airport to board the flight to the royal city of Lucknow. Arrive Lucknow and you will depart for Sravasti located 170 Kms from Lucknow city. Arrive Sravasti and check-in to the hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 04: Sravasti – Lumbini (229 kms)
After breakfast visit Sahet Mahet, capital of ancient Kingdom of Kosala followed by Jetvana Vihar & Buddhist temples. Later you will depart for the famous Buddhist town of Lumbini. On arrival check-in to the hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 05: Lumbini – Kushinagar (143 kms)
Breakfast at hotel followed by a half day tour of Lumbini, which has been declared a World Heritage Site. Later visit the sacred Gardens, Ashoka pillar and Lumbini Museum. Afternoon you will depart for Kushinagar via Kapilavastu. Located at approx. 91 kms – Kapilavastu is where Lord Buddha spent the formative years of his youth; where he saw suffering and pain, disease and death. Visit the main stupa complex, eastern stupa and the ruins of the palace. After sightseeing continue your drive to Kushinagar - the place where Buddha passed into Niirvana.

Day 06: Kushinagar – Varanasi (265 kms / 6 hrs)
Morning proceed for a half day sightseeing tour of Kushinagar visiting the Ramabha stupa, which stands, on the spot where the body of the Lord was cremated followed by a visit to Natha Kumarka Kot enshrining the large recumbent figure of Buddha in the state of Nirvana. Drive to Varanasi. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 07: Varanasi
Morning enjoy a half-day excursion to Sarnath - the principle centre of Buddhism. It was here around 530 B.C that Buddha preached his 1st sermon after gaining enlightenment. Upon arrival in Sarnath visit the Choukhandi Stupa, Dhamekh and Dharmarajika stupas. Return to Varanasi. Afternoon visit the ghats and temples. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 08: Varanasi – Bodh Gaya (247 Kms / 6 hrs)
After breakfast depart for Bodhgaya - one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage centres. It was here that Gautama attained enlightenment and became Buddha under the "Bodhi" tree. Upon arrival in Bodhgaya you will check-in at the hotel. Evening will be free for relaxation. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 09: Bodhgaya – Rajgir (191 kms / 4.5 hrs)
After breakfast proceed for a short tour of Bodhgaya visiting the Bodhi tree, Satabodhi temple, Japanese and Tibetan monasteries along with Magadha University museum are also visited. En-route to Rajgir, take a stopover at the Baraliar caves - the earliest examples of rock cut caves. Extremely intricate work and impressive craftsmanship of carvings and rock inscription can be seen. Upon arrival in Rajgir check-in and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 10:  Rajgir
Breakfast at hotel followed by a visit to Nalanda - the world's oldest university founded in the 5th century. Later visit the monasteries and temples with impressive Buddhist & Hindu images. The Institute for research into Buddhism and Pali literature, which houses rare manuscripts, is also worth a visit. Not to miss the Archaeological museum for its rare collections. Afternoon you will visit the Indasala caves. After sightseeing return to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 11: Rajgir - Patna
After breakfast proceed for a half day city tour of Rajgir the capital of 6th century Magadha Empire. It was the revered site of Buddha’s discourses. Buddha spent many years here. Start your tour with a visit to Gridhrakula, Sapataparni cave, Ajatsatru fort and Venuvana. Afternoon you will drive to Patna - the capital city of the state of Bihar. Upon arrival in Patna check-in hotel and overnight stay.

Day 12: Rajgir - Ratnagiri (600 kms / 9 hrs)
Early morning depart for Ratnagiri. On arrival check-in hotel for overnight stay.

Day 13: Ratnagiri
Morning proceed for a full day tour of the three main Buddhist destinations in Orissa: Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri. At Ratangiri visit the two large monasteries and a huge stupa and at Lalitgiri visit the brick pagodas, stone porches and the prayer halls. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 14: Ratnagiri – Bhubaneshwar
Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Bhubaneshwar. En-route you will stopover at Dhauli where Emperor Asoka renounced bloodshed and embraced the teachings of Buddhism. Also visit the Shanti Stupa (Peace Pagoda) and the Ashokan rock edicts, which were built by the emperor throughout his empire. Upon arrival in Bhubaneshwar you will check-in hotel for overnight stay.

Day 15: Bhubaneshwar – Delhi (flight)
Morning will be at leisure. In time a Hansa Vacations representative will transfer you to airport to board the flight to Delhi. Upon arrival in Delhi board the International flight for onward destination.
